Chick Corea, second from right, with the Vigil
If you've seen the cover art for Chick Corea's 2013 set The Vigil, the debut by his combo of the same name, then you already know what to expect here—there's truth in advertising behind that fusion-redolent image of the piano star on horseback, dressed in a Return to Forever–style suit of armor. Corea's keyboards will twinkle, the guitar will blaze, the bass will pop and your head will bob.

As a long-time fan of Chick Corea, since I first heard him in about 1975-6, I have to admit to a little bias here. (Return to Forever has me hooked-in for life anyway) This album is yet another one of his very very crisp & sharp productions which could have come from The Chick Corea Elektric Band, which is pretty much my favourite form of Fusion/Jazz. When I met Chick at his concert in Sao Paolo-Brazil, in 1997, I told him to never retire, & he's obviously following my advice.! I hope Chick & this current group of musicians produce more albums like this. Brilliant, & well done guys.! Jeff Hague
