Christopher Houlihan: Vierne2012

Critics' pick
Christopher Houlihan
Prodigious young organist Christopher Houlihan might not be a household name just yet, but he certainly knows how to make a splash: In two concerts this afternoon and evening, he'll play the six Organ Symphonies of French composer Louis Vierne, regarded as pinnacles of the repertoire, on Ascension's magnificent Manton Memorial Organ. Eschewing rigorous authenticity, Houlihan has no plans to expire at the console during the concert (as Vierne did exactly 75 years prior); instead, he'll launch a cross-country tour.

Houlihan's global aspiraitions for advancing the love and appreciation of organ music is based on his business sense and superb enriched talent. A mighty combination. He's begun a powerful stride of performances which both serious and new afficianado's will be inspired with.
