Matthew Shipp Trio: Tribute to Duke Ellington

Matthew Shipp's latest disc is called I've Been to Many Places, and it's true: Since the late ’80s, the unclassifiable pianist has traveled the globe and traversed the stylistic map. Fitting then that he's appearing at Jazz at Lincoln, honoring Duke Ellington with help from triomates Michael Bisio (bass) and Newman Taylor Baker (drums). Anyone who's been keeping a close eye on Shipp knows that he's every bit as well equipped to handle a standards-centric set as a high-wire free-improv encounter.
