There are all-star jazz groups, and then there's a true stunner of a lineup like this. Out front is one of the deadlier saxophone teams in recent memory—Odean Pope, Pharoah Sanders and James Carter—and sharing the stage is the redoubtable rhythm section of pianist Geri Allen, bassist Reggie Workman and drummer Jeff "Tain" Watts. Expect plenty of muscular swing and ecstatic improv from these six outside-the-box veterans.

I was lucky enought to hear this concert on W/Sep 12, at the suggestion of a friend. I've long been an admirer of Geri Allen and Reggie Workman and knew of Pharoah Sanders rep, but little of his music.  It was a phenomenal evening. Exhilarating. I am eager to hear the recording that will result from the Blue Note run.
