The East Village’s Sidewalk Café has been a haven for artists working the margins of New York music for 20 years now (yes, really!). Randomly dropping by can be risky: Not every performer can be the world’s next Beck (to cite one artist who rose through antifolk’s ranks). A smart time to pop in is during the Antifolk Festival, which takes over the club for a week or so every August, and now in February, too. This year's performers include Jeffrey Lewis with Peter Stampfel, Debe Dalton, the Pendulum Swings and the excellent Larkin Grimm. Check sidewalkny.com for the complete lineup.
