    Description
This upscale vegetarian spot is ideal for anyone who loves food or animals. The intimate, bi-level townhouse possesses an ambience that gourmet-minded vegetarians crave but rarely encounter. Best is the food itself—fresh, creative and considerate (a separate gluten-free menu keeps celiacs sated). Delectable dishes include the seitan piccata, crisp medallions in a light bath of lemon butter and capers, and the saffron-flavored paella, studded with seitan sausage and seasonal veggies. Service is knowledgeable and attentive, and the desserts—one layers chocolate and peanut butter mousse inside a dark chocolate shell—impossibly rich.

I have been a vegetarian my entire life. I have suffered through countless "vegetarian meals" and side dishes etc. Yet believe it or not I am a total foodie. I was delighted to find myself at Candle 79 for my birthday. We had smoothie's at the bar while waiting for my table. Fresh, delicious & made from scratch. Then the menu was not only seasonal, gourmet, delicious. But impeccably presented in the true gourmet style that usually is not afforded vegetarians. Service was top notch!

Five stars over four simply due to the unquestionable freshness of the base produce. Regardless of a vegan palate the food tends towards a timid approach to an opportunity to really showcase the potential for this vegan cusine. Although I recognise the fact that a consistent adherece to this diet amy creat a palte more sendsitive to spice and herb influeunce, it is still shy of its potential. I must applaud the chich pea entree as it faithfullly executed the potential of the dish.
