Description
The East Village’s Mermaid Inn has swum upstream to open a sibling on the Upper West Side. With its nautical theme and fish-shack feel entirely intact, the new Inn offers similar aquatic fare, from Barbuto vet Laurence Edelman. The brand transition is fairly smooth: Though grilled oysters and sausage disappointed, with a “breakfast sausage” element to the meat, entrées wowed us. Skate wing—a reinvention of a Mermaid classic—is here sautéed in fish broth and served with sweet figs. An original—a mélange of beets, brussels sprouts and hazelnuts alongside two tender monkfish filets—suggests why reservations are difficult to score.
