Catch the free ferry (from Manhattan or Brooklyn) to this retreat, which opens for the season on Saturday 26. Rent a two-wheeler—or if you’re feeling silly, a tandem cycle—from
Bike and Roll’s kiosk (prices vary), and go cruising around the island. Be sure to stop at Picnic Point, at the southern end, where you can get cozy in a hammock and enjoy the view. 212-440-2200, govisland.com. Sat, Sun 10am–7pm; through Sept 30.

Ditch the multiplex and head to one of Rooftop Films’ alfresco screenings, which take place atop buildings and in other unusual plein air venues around the city. This year’s crop of eclectic events includes “Is It Love?” (June 22),
a series of short films that all deal with the topic of romance—albeit in quirky ways. Locations vary; visit rooftopfilms.com for details. All screenings 8pm; $12.

This park is one of the best places to escape New York’s urban jungle without actually leaving the city. A walk along the converted railway is lovely in itself, but there are plenty of other dateworthy things to do here, too: Gaze at the stars during Tuesday-evening sessions with the Amateur Astronomers Association, or enjoy a bite to eat at open-air wine bar Terroir, which focuses on local, seasonal fare. But with our dater’s handbook, you just might be able to prevent a bad date from happening. Our dating tips include apps to download that can help boost conversation, and services that send robocalls to get you out of a bad date. Plus, find out how to graciously decline another outing. Before Set up a Google Voice numberYes, you should definitely keep an open mind when you’re looking for the right person, but it’s equally important to protect yourself from under-the-radar stalker types. If you’d prefer not to receive random 2am texts, mask your cell number by registering for a free Google Voice account (google.com/voice).
