Ever wonder what happens to all those fab props from that TV show temporarily filming on your block? Usually the decor and furnishings from movies and commercials simply get dropped in the Dumpster. But two and a half years ago, Eva Radke, a former art-department coordinator for commercials and films, decided to give her beloved industry a greener, more profitable alternative: She opened a superstore of gently used, leftover furniture, props, decorations and tchotchkes, all gathered from professional shoots. The gigantic space is stocked with wares (available for both sale and rental). Trick out your holiday party without spending serious dough by renting ornate gold lamps for $22 each (if you’re dying to keep them, they’re only $45 each). Warm up your living room by purchasing a mod velvet couch ($250) or cushy brown reading chair ($75). For take-home lighting options, Radke sourced a never-been-used silver ball lamp ($35) from a commercial, and a strawberry-pink tin chair ($25) lends a touch of delightful kitsch. Always happy to negotiate and work within your budget, Film Biz will often discount for bulk purchases.
