George Smith Design Warehouse

0 Love It
This British furniture brand made a name for itself in the ’80s by producing high-quality upholstery and cabinetry. Today, the company is still largely known for its upscale sofas ($5,000–$20,000) and chairs ($2,000–$10,000) that are handmade and done in a multitude of lush fabrics. The original New York shop opened in Soho in 1989, and has now relocated to a roomier warehouse space with white walls and large columns. Members of the trade and laypeople alike can wander through a series of living-room–like vignettes to select a piece or browse accessories stacked on metal-pipe shelves in the back of the store. Custom chaises ($2,000–$20,000) can be ordered in a seemingly infinite combination of shapes, styles, and in-house or imported fabrics, or you can choose from the premade options, including claw-foot armchairs done in birch-print fabric ($8,640), feather-cushion brocade sofas ($16,630) and tufted-silk dining room chairs ($3,300). In addition to couches, the warehouse also traffics in smaller accessories and vintage pieces, such as a pair of 1950s table lamps ($2,900), huge lacquer-trimmed mirrors ($4,800) and a 1950s laminate-top end table ($3,800).
