Drummer Bernard "Pretty" Purdie, a groove merchant said to be the most-recorded drummer alive—you've heard him behind Miles Davis, Aretha Franklin and Steely Dan, to name but three prominent examples—turns up for a rare avant-garde–centric gig staged by long-running indie jazz mag Cadence. Joining the funky vet are improvisers including David Haney, Adam Lane and Avram Fefer.
