Bryant Park Hotel
Description
This midtown hotel has seen a lot more action ever since Koi, the East Coast branch of the splashy Los Angeles restaurant, opened on site in spring 2005. Ian Schrager’s partner Philip Pilevsky converted the 1924 American Radiator Building into his first New York property, and it seems as though the hotel has all the right accessories to lure a trendsetting crowd: There’s a gorgeous 70-seat screening room with red velour chairs and built-in desks, and, thanks to the hotel’s close proximity to Bryant Park, a well-heeled clientele, which checks in each year during Fashion Week. But oddly, the rooms are stark, and—casting aside the LCD TVs—look as if they were furnished from the Ikea catalogue. You can always head downstairs for a cocktail in the vaulted Cellar Bar, however. Rooms: 129. Bar. Gym. High-speed wireless Internet ($10/day). Restaurant.
