Cramped and inconspicuous - like so many of Rome's best cake shops - it's well worth fighting your way inside for lieviti (breakfast yeast buns). Bernasconi's chewy, yeasty cornetti are unbeatable: the real vintage variety, difficult to find elsewhere. Close to the synagogue, this spot straddles Rome's Jewish and Catholic worlds, with kosher sweets and Lenten quaresimale cookies
