The Life and Death of the Human Soul of Design
An exhibition inside a bookstore? Count us in. That’s enough reason to drop by The Life and Death of the Human Soul of Design, the latest showcase by Singaporean designer Pann Lim. Taking over Basheer Graphic Books for one week only, Lim’s exhibition is a thought-provoking exploration of what it means to be a creative in the age of artificial intelligence. Why be a designer when AI can generate artwork within seconds? Why even study design at all any more? These are some of the uncomfortable questions Lim confronts and tries to answer in his exhibition, using evidence from his postgraduate research.
The exhibition accompanies Lim’s latest publication of the same name, which examines our lives in an increasingly automated world. But rather than simply positioning AI as creatives’ arch-nemesis, Lim wants to challenge the audience to rethink what makes a human design truly irreplaceable.
