After three years at the Joo Chiat neighbourhood, Tigerlily Patisserie is permanently closing on April 30.

The shop announced its closure in an Instagram post on April 6, where it recounted its journey starting as an online business during the Covid-19 pandemic, to opening its first brick-and-mortar store. In the message, Chef Maxine Ngooi also thanked the brand’s supporters and mentioned that it was time for her to “personally reset and explore new culinary adventures”. Ngooi also cited "the challenge of rising operational costs" like "rental rates" and "cost of ingredients" as main reasons for the closure.

Ngooi previously held stints at Les Amis, Joel Robuchon Restaurant, and was the head pastry chef at the now defunct one-Michelin-starred Vianney Massot. In 2022, she was also voted Pastry Chef of the Year at the World Gourmet Awards and included in Prestige’s list of 40 under 40.

Tigerlily Patisserie was launched by Ngooi in 2020 as a virtual bakery selling sweet and savoury pastry boxes consisting of four different bakes. Ngooi tapped on the free time she had during the circuit breaker to experiment with different kinds of pastries, taking inspiration from her mother’s home business serving Eurasian and Peranakan food. The result was artisanal Asian-inspired bakes with French pastry-making techniques. The brand would later go on to open its first physical store in Joo Chiat after gaining popularity for its bake boxes.

Some of the bakery’s popular treats which will be missed are the matcha flan and kimchi cheese croissant from the sweet and savoury box ($28.50), as well as a signature pastry called The Beehive ($15). If you are a fan of the bakery or if you’ve never tried their popular bakes, make sure to head down one last time before it closes at the end of the month.

Tigerlily Patisserie is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 5pm at 350 Joo Chiat Road.
