Built in 1906, this ex-firehall was transformed into a lively theatre in 1982. The centre's programme leans towards work that's relevant to its Downtown Eastside location - from the breakthrough Canadian play The Ecstacy of Rita Joe by George Ryga to works by contemporary First Nations playwrights such as Drew Hayden Taylor or a hit production of Urinetown. The Firehall's a favourite venue for smaller professional companies as well.
