Museo Ebraico

Venice's Jewish community has been enjoying a renaissance recently, and this well-run museum and cultural centre - founded in 1953 - has been spruced up accordingly, with the addition of a bookshop; a further extension was planned as this guide went to press. In the small museum itself there are ritual objects in silver - Trah finials, Purim and Pesach cases, menorahs - sacred vestments and hangings, and a series of marriage contracts. The museum is best visited as part of a guided tour. This takes in three synagogues - the Scuola Canton (Ashkenazi rite), the Scuola Italiana (Italian rite) and the Scuola Levantina (Sephardic rite).
