‘The flavour you always yearn for’ is the ESL tagline here, but that only adds cuteness to the already appealing prospect of a six-pack of pastel de nata – traditional egg-tart pastries done to perfection. A new business set up by a hard-working young Portuguese couple, Saudade suffers from an unglamorous shopping-centre carpark location, next to the post office and behind the bottle shop. But when they’re turning out 1,400 tarts a day, neither the staff nor the customers seem concerned. And you can always get a park when you duck in for your tart fix (and mail a postcard to Lisbon en route). Coffee and imported Portuguese fruit juices are available too.
