The saga of Schapelle Corby is now an original Australian musical, playing at the Adelaide Fringe
Her arrest, trial, conviction, incarceration and eventual release kept the nation in its seats from the moment she was stopped by customs officers at Bali's Denpasar Airport in 2004. Now the saga of Schapelle Corby is doing the same for musical theatre fans.
Written by NYU-trained composer Tim Hansen along with Gabbi Bolt, Jack Dodds, Abby Gallaway, Mitch Lourigan and Gareth Thomson, Schapelle, Schapelle is a new musical that fictionalises the story but includes pivotal actual events and verbatim elements. Songs include 'Queensland’s Not Waiting for You', 'It’s Just Unjust!' and 'Smuggling My Way to the Top'.
The musical was trialled at Bathurst’s Sprung Festival to sell-out crowds, winning the 2018 Blair Milan Memorial Tour Prize, and last year it played a sellout season at the Factory Theatre in Sydney.
