South Australian Museum says
This is a free five hour event, however if you want to go to the Opals exhibition, entry fees to the temporary gallery space apply.

Opals were first discovered at Coober Pedy in 1915 and, since then, the town has become an icon of outback ingenuity. From the lunar landscape to the colourful characters, you’re invited to find out more about the world centre of opal mining at this family-friendly fun day of talks, tours and hands-on activities including:
• Fossicking for opals
• Fossil casting workshops for kids
• Talks hosted by Peter Goers
• Free family theatre performances
• Opal jewellery info sessions: bring your treasures with you to find out more about them

A full program is available at http://www.samuseum.sa.gov.au/upload/learn/all-ages/images/OPAL_CooberPedyDay_W.pdf.
