Safi Faye was the first Sub-Saharan African woman to direct a commercially distributed feature film and is one of the most important figures in the Senegalese film movement of the 1970s. In Mossane, Faye moves away from the cinema verite style of her earlier work to tell the story of a girl who refuses to marry the man she has been promised to. But in defying the wishes of her family and future husband she is destined for tragedy.
