Ereshkigal is the oft-mentioned sister of the Sumerian Goddess Inanna. Not much is known about Ereshkigal. However, she plays an important role in the most significant story of Inanna: Inanna’s Descent into the Underworld. It is said that Ereshkigal calls her to come, and Inanna must come. In her descent, Inanna strips off every symbol of power and privilege, appearing before Ereshkigal naked and alone. Why? Why does Inanna, the most powerful of the Sumerian goddesses have to respond. And when she gets there, why does Ereshkigal hang her naked sister from a meat hook for three days? If you enjoy drama, you may enjoy this enactment of the confrontation between Ereshkigal and Inanna.

Pat Cuney (presenter): We think of Pat as an organizer, which she is, but she is also a writer and playwright of sorts. Anyone who ever witnessed a performance of her profound and comedic play, “The True Story of the Egg and the Sperm,” will be surprised and delighted to see her perform in this dramatic encounter between Inanna and Ereshkigal. Pat is the founder of the Getting to Know the Goddess Series and an ordained priestess of the Re-formed Congregation of the Goddess. She is currently organizing The Temple of Dancing Women, a clean and sober weekend event for woman performance artists to celebrate the Divine Feminine in October, 2015 ( www.templeofdancingwomen.com).
