A moving meditation. Staying present in the moment. Enhancing awareness and experiencing something larger than yourself. Finding steadiness and ease even through physically and mentally challenging experiences. Yoga? Yes, but I’m also talking about hiking and backpacking. Yogis and hikers have more in common than they may realize. This workshop will feature the commonalities of yoga and hiking/backpacking and how they complement each other. The physical actions of each are different and can support one another in addition to the mental and physical challenges they both offer. The purpose of both can often be the same: having an experience of staying in the present moment, a moving meditation, and the simplicity and repetition of moving your body. The workshop is designed to assist the yogi in creating a rich practice while out on the trail. We’ll cover meditation, adding yoga to your backpacking/hiking adventures, addressing the mental and physical challenges of the two practices, and asana (yoga poses) including sequences for before, during, and after your hike. If you’re a yogi who’s interested in getting outside, a yogi who already grabs a full backpack for days at a time without a second thought, or a hiker who wants to explore yoga more deeply as a way to elevate your time outside, this is your workshop. Feel free to bring your pack, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, etc. to use as props! Cost: $20 (no class passes)
