Here's how you can turn a standard layover into a mini-Vietnamese getaway

We’ve just found the ultimate travel hack for your next European getaway – and it comes with a bonus tropical getaway along the way. This October, budget airline Vietjet is launching its first-ever European service between Hanoi and Prague. This creates an affordable new option for Aussies to fly over to Europe via the vibrant Vietnamese capital from just $790.
Vietnam is currently one of Australia’s fastest-growing destinations, with the Aussie dollar offering strong buying power against the dong right now. Beyond the steaming bowls of pho and crispy banh mi, travellers are drawn to the country’s buzzing street food markets, lantern-lit streets and serene beaches. We reckon it makes for the perfect stopover en route to Europe – one that’ll easily make your long-haul trip more comfortable, and now more affordable, thanks to Vietjet’s new budget flights.
Aussie travellers looking to cash in on the new Vietjet service will first need to make their way to Hanoi. According to Skyscanner data for October, the cheapest one-way flights to the Vietnamese capital start at $225 from Perth, $288 from Sydney, $289 from Melbourne, $297 from Brisbane or $389 from Adelaide.
From there, you can spend a few wonderful days eating your way through Hanoi before connecting to the new Czech service, which starts at around $565 one-way. Keep in mind the plane will also make a stop in Almaty, Kazakhstan for refuelling – meaning three stops in total. But hey, it’s worth it when the price for the entire journey can be as low as $790!
Vietjet’s twice-weekly Hanoi-to-Prague route launches on October 10, which means you might just catch the tail end of Euro summer if you move fast.
