Move over beach escapes and city breaks – hiking holidays are officially having their moment. These days, Aussies are ditching Wi-Fi for wildflower fields, mountain summits and fresh-air therapy – and with so many epic multi-day treks in Australia, going off-grid has never been easier. If you’re keen to jump on the hiking holiday bandwagon in 2026, this is your sign. Australia is scoring two new ‘Great Walks’, including the first experience that lets guests stay overnight inside Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park.

For those new to it, Great Walks of Australia is the ultimate bucket list collection of multi-day, guided treks Down Under, with each trail carefully selected for its spectacular location, world-class service and unique accommodation. Since its launch in 2013, Great Walks of Australia has grown to 13 unforgettable hikes, with two brand-new adventures set to join the collection in 2026.

First up is the five-day Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa Signature Walk – the first and only experience to let guests stay overnight inside the World Heritage-listed national park. Developed by the award-winning Tasmanian Walking Company in close collaboration with the Aṉangu Traditional Owners, whose people have called this sacred land home for over 30,000 years, this 54-kilometre trek is nothing short of spectacular.

From April 2026, hikers can embark on this 54-kilometre desert adventure, stretching from the towering domes of Kata Tjuṯa to the base of Uluru. The all-inclusive, fully guided journey for up to 14 guests includes breathtaking sunrise and stargazing experiences, chef-prepared meals featuring native ingredients, Indigenous-led workshops where guests can connect to the land’s culture and history, and a mix of eco-camping and private lodgings. Serious bucket list stuff!

South Australia will welcome its third Great Walk on Kangaroo Island – a four-day, guided adventure traversing the island’s pristine landscapes – in September 2025. Along the 46-kilometre Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail, hikers will pass iconic geological formations, like Admirals Arch and Remarkable Rocks, and may encounter sea lions and rare bird species, before unwinding in the exclusive, heritage-listed Cape du Couedic Lightkeeper Cottages.

All meals, drinks, accommodation and transfers are included in Great Walks of Australia’s multi-day treks, so all you need to focus on is soaking up the scenery and enjoying the journey. You can check out a full list of the Great Walks below and see upcoming departure dates here.
