Here’s your guide to the major tennis Grand Slam happening in Melbourne this month

2025 is off to a smashing start in Australia, with the pre-tournament for the Australian Open – the Southern Hemisphere's largest annual sporting event – beginning on January 6. Last year, more than 1 million fans flocked to Melbourne Park to see the biggest names in tennis battle it out across the three-week tennis grand slam.
In 2025, the action will be hotter than ever, featuring exhibition matches, giant screens, endless Aperols, pop-up activations and a live festival featuring Kesha – sounds ace! Here’s everything you need to know about when and how to watch the Australian Open 2025.
The 15-day Australian Open officially kicks off on Sunday, January 12th and ends on Sunday, January 26th. Before the main event, qualifying matches will take place from Monday, January 6 to Thursday, January 9.
The Australian Open will take place at Melbourne Park in Victoria across 39 courts, including the iconic 15,000-seat Rod Laver Arena, John Cain Arena and Margaret Court Arena.

Italian tennis sensation Jannik Sinner claimed victory at the 2024 Australian Open and currently reigns as world number one in men’s singles. On the women’s side, Belarusian powerhouse Aryna Sabalenka won the 2024 Australian Open and now holds the top spot as the world’s number one in women’s singles.
Ten-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic will return to Melbourne Park in 2025, alongside defending champions Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka. Australia’s very own Alex de Minaur, Alexei Popyrin, Jordan Thompson, Kimberly Birrell and Olivia Gadecki will also be competing in the 2025 Australian Open.
After withdrawing from a charity match against Novak Djokovic on January 2 due to an abdominal injury, it’s uncertain whether Nick Kyrgios will be fit to compete in the 2025 Australian Open.
The Australian Open singles draw was released on January 9, with the doubles draw to be released on Saturday, January 11 at 3pm AEDT. The draw ceremony will be live-streamed on the Australian Open YouTube channel and Facebook page. You can keep updated with the schedule here.
The Australian Open finals for the women’s singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles events will take place on Saturday, January 25. The men’s singles and women’s doubles finals will happen on the next night on Sunday, January 26, around 7.30pm AEDT.
The 2025 Australian Open boasts a massive prize pool of $96.5 million. Singles champions will pocket $3.5 million, while runners-up will take home $1.9 million and semifinalists will score $1.1 million. In the doubles tournaments, winners will share $810,000, with $440,000 going to the runners-up.
