With more than 1,600 golf courses, Australia boasts more fairways per capita than almost any other country. From rugged islands to tropical coastlines, these beautifully diverse greens offer far more than just a place for a casual swing. You don’t need to pay a $20,000-a-year membership for a game either, as the majority of our nation’s golf courses are fully accessible to the public. Warning: choosing where to play is almost harder than getting a hole-in-one!

You might be familiar with the iconic Great Walks of Australia, but did you know there’s a version for golfers? Curated by Tourism Australia’s Signature Experiences, the Great Golf Courses of Australia is an elite collection of the nation's top 30. Each location has been selected for its modern architecture, course maintenance, exceptional hospitality and premium facilities, with breathtaking scenery as an added bonus.

Proving its heavy-hitting status on the global stage, seven of Australia’s 30 greatest golf courses are listed in the world’s top 100 for 2025/26. That includes Royal Melbourne: West (seventh), Kingston Heath (24th), Barnbougle Dunes (41st), New South Wales (46th), Royal Melbourne: East (82nd), The Victoria (93rd) and Cape Wickham (100th).
