Reality check: Easter is almost here! Back in January, it felt like the next long, long weekend was a lifetime away – but now, we’re just days out from a glorious four-day break. Expedia’s latest travel report reveals Australians are keeping it local this year, with most travellers (79 per cent) opting for domestic beachside getaways.

While the April long weekend is only days away, there’s still time to lock in a last-minute local escape. You might as well (just hop to it ASAP)! If you’re stuck for ideas – or keen to dodge the crowds – we’ve got the intel on the top trending destinations Aussies are heading this Easter.

Australia’s gorgeous ‘Garden City’, Toowoomba, is leading the pack as the hottest Easter holiday spot for 2026. Blending country charm with the vibrancy of a big city, it’s seen the biggest spike in demand on Expedia – up a massive 315 per cent compared to this time last year.

Queensland's largest inland is famed for its leafy streets, heritage architecture and blooming gardens – perfect for an Easter egg hunt on steroids. It’s not just pretty, either: Toowoomba has a surprisingly cool café and bakery scene for your hot cross bun fix, plus plenty of charming country pubs for Good Friday fish and chips or a hearty Easter Sunday roast.

Hot on Toowoomba’s heels is the iconic Byron Bay, located on NSW’s far north coast. This boho-chic beach town has long been a favourite for NSW and Queensland travellers, and demand has increased by a further 145 per cent this year.

Seven of the top ten trending Easter spots were NSW coastal destinations, with Port Stephens, Tweed Heads and Coffs Harbour rounding out the top five. You can check out the full list below.
