The Barossa Valley has topped a list of Australia’s top ten places to go vineyard hopping this season

Australia has officially entered its peak autumn era, when we say farewell to the tail-end of summer heat and hello to crisp mornings and gorgeous golden foliage. For our world-class wine regions, this period marks the end of harvest season, making it the perfect time to book a cosy wine country getaway.
Handily, the vinophiles at The Meat & Wine Co have just unveiled a list of the ten best wine regions in Australia for an autumn escape, analysing everything from tour availability and pricing to weather conditions, number of Decanter awards and proximity to the closest capital.
South Australia is the nation’s undisputed wine capital, home to six of the top ten autumn wine regions – with the Barossa Valley taking the number one spot. Less than an hour’s drive from Adelaide, this historic valley is Australia’s most awarded wine region and boasts some of the world’s oldest continuously producing vines. The Barossa’s Mediterranean climate is famous for making premium shiraz and bold red wines, with top drops found at wineries like Penfolds, Henschke, Jacob’s Creek, Yalumba and Seppeltsfield.
You’re truly spoilt for choice with more than 100 wine excursions where you can sip, swirl and stretch your legs – no deso drive needed! Plus, with autumn temperatures averaging just above 20 degrees, there’s no better way to spend an afternoon than with an alfresco long lunch overlooking the region's picture-perfect vines.
