Backed by thousands of perfect five-star reviews, this breathtaking Whitsundays beach is a must-visit

Whitehaven Beach is no stranger to the spotlight. Featuring in almost every reputable global “best beaches” ranking, it proudly sets the bar high for beachy goodness in Australia. But its accolades don’t stop at the shoreline – new research reveals Whitehaven is in fact the number-one tourist attraction in all of Oz, outranking national landmarks like Uluru, the Great Ocean Road and the Sydney Opera House.
To determine the rankings, the team at Iglu Cruise calculated the percentage of five-star Tripadvisor reviews for Australia’s top 40 attractions. Whitehaven Beach claimed the undisputed crown, boasting an incredible 85.3 per cent five-star rating from global travellers.
Located off the Queensland coast, this slice of paradise sits within the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef Marine Park on Whitsunday Island. It is globally renowned for its seven-kilometre stretch of swirling silica sands and crystal-clear turquoise waters, which hover at an inviting 26 degrees Celsius year-round. Bliss!
The best way for travellers to witness the wonders of Whitehaven is on a boat trip from Airlie Beach, while a scenic flight gives you the very best views from up above. Those looking to escape the daytime crowds can pitch a tent at the remote bush campsite hidden just behind the southern dunes (bookings required). For the ultimate adventure, there’s also the new Ngaro Track – a beautiful 32-kilometre two-night walk that begins on the sands of Whitehaven Beach and finishes at Hill Inlet.
