Felons Brewing Co, QLD

Right on the banks of the river under the Story Bridge, this is the easiest, breeziest spot in Brisbane to while away a Sunday session. Nab a table on the deck or sprawl on a picnic rug on the lawn and work your way through the fresh, frothy ales and lagers brewed on site. Don’t miss sister restaurant Felons Barrel Hall, also a Velocity point location, for bold Thai eats and ripper live music.

Arbory Afloat, VIC

Melbourne's largest outdoor floating bar and restaurant on the Yarra River does a spectacular new theme every year. For 2025? We’re heading to Rio de Janeiro, baby. Their tenth edition brings juicy grilled meats, fresh seafood like ceviche and fruity cocktail jugs to the 69-metre pop-up. This year’s design is sleek with deep green beach umbrellas and deck chairs for lounging after your lazy sun-drenched lunch. If the success of past seasons is anything to go by, Melburnians are in for a treat.

Manly Pavilion, NSW

Combine panoramic water views (bonus points for additional city skyline), seafood, fresh pasta, a sunny deck and a cheeky bevvy and the result is the perfect Sydney day. And it’s an accessible reality at Manly Pavilion. The dining room housed in the 1930’s bathing pavilion facing Manly Cove and looking out to the heads and all the way back to the CBD skyscrapers, could not be better located if it tried. It’s also one of the first places you pass if you’re trekking from the Spit along the coastal walk – we can think of worse places to refuel.

College Lawn Hotel, VIC

A traditional sports pub setup can be found tucked away in the front wing of the College Lawn Hotel in the back streets of Windsor, serving the needs of those looking for big screens above your head and no-frills draught beer on tap. The busiest area of the pub is invariably its sprawling beer garden, with a dedicated bar screening the game on each angle of the corner setup. When it’s wet weather footy conditions in Melbourne, the beer garden will keep you warm and dry while you yell “BALL!” at the screen to your heart’s content.

The Squire’s Landing, NSW

The Squire’s Landing location in Circular Quay is the brewery's seventh in Australia, and it’s not only a beer hall – the venue is open for lunch and dinner too. Kick back with some harbourside sundowner beers at the brewhouse, and soak up views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The joint is home to an ace micro-brewery if you want some fresh small-batch liquid gold or you can grab any of the James Squire craft beer range on tap.

Quarterhouse, VIC

Contemporary three-storey pub Quarterhouse – set in the Melbourne Quarter precinct, hence the name – promises to be a touch more stylish than your average sports bar on this end of the CBD (think DJ sets! Rooftop views! Wagyu skewers!). With its plentiful booths, banquettes and umbrella-shaded street-side tables, the ground floor is your new home for frosty pints and pub grub, or climb to the stylish rooftop bar with an open-air wrap-around terrace playing host to long lunches, acoustic artists and DJs on weekends.

Riverbar and Kitchen, QLD

By day it's a tranquil, riverside place to breakfast and lunch while taking in picture perfect Story Bridge views under the shade of trademark yellow and white striped umbrellas. By night, the throng arrives for dinner, then drinks, transforming the joint to party central with revellers spilling onto the riverside promenade. Riverbar has a little bit of something for everyone from early morn to late at night when the river shimmers with the city's reflected light and the bridge sparkles.

The Golden Sheaf, NSW

There are two very distinct sides to the Sheaf. The beautiful towering art deco façade gives way to an entranceway lined in signed music memorabilia. To your right is one of the fanciest gaming lounges we’ve seen outside a casino, complete with a fish tank and an outdoor waterfall. On the left of the hall is the public bar where serious East Sydney Roosters fans gather. So far, it’s exactly what you’d expect to find inside a hundred year old pub. But we’re in exceedingly well-heeled Double Bay, and once you get to the beer garden it’s very clear clear that the Sheaf is more blue ribbon than blue collar.
