Handpicked Wines took the term ‘tasting notes’ literally. Teaming up with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the sustainably managed Australian wine brand has released a Christmas gift set that lets you explore how sound and taste dance together.
In the ‘Taste the Symphony' box ($150), you’ll find three drops – each of them is paired with a different track from ‘Mahler’s Symphony No. 2’. Inspired by the concept of ‘sonic seasoning’, the pairings are curated so that the wines enhance the listening experience, and the symphonies elevate your tasting experience. Scan the QR code on the bottle, pour a glass and kick back to the sweet sounds of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
As you listen and sip, detailed tasting notes will guide you through each match, explaining how the flavours, aromas, and textures of each wine mingle with the melody, energy, and pitch of its partner symphony. Feel as the sparkling cuvée’s vibrant bubbles complement the building energy of a symphony, or a symphony's faded finish draws focus the bold and lengthy finish of a riesling.
The wines included are a collection Tasmania Sparkling Cuvée, a Trial Batch Riesling and a Trial Batch Pinot Gris. Each wine is organically farmed and sustainably picked, all overseen by Handpicked’s chief winemaker Peter Dillon. Handpicked’s drops come from all over Australia’s best wine regions – from Tasmania and the Mornington Peninsula to the Yarra and Barossa Valleys. All the wines in this set are cool-climate drops from Tasmania.
It isn’t Handpicked Wines and Sydney Symphony’s first rodeo together. The perfect pairing has a three-year partnership, namely Handpicked Wines presenting the Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s cocktail hour concert series.
