There aren’t many places in the world where you can go from red sand deserts to tropical rainforests and a heritage-listed coral reef within one country (nay, one state). In Australia, you can see it all, and with Specsavers you can see it clearly. Squeeze the most juice out of these bucket list experiences with special lens options that will amplify your journey and take out the hassle – from smudges to glare.

Now’s the time to book your flights and purchase your specs because Specsavers is having its longest ever Black Friday sale. With any frame purchase, you’ll score 50 per cent off all lens options. Here are the lens options you should add to cart, and the adventures where you’ll wear them.

Go snorkelling in the Great Barrier Reef, QLD

Whether you’re day tripping from Airlie Beach or snorkelling right off the beach of Fitzroy Island, the Great Barrier Reef is one of those wonders that you have to experience at least once in your life. As exciting (and scenic) as those boat trips out to the outer reef can be, you’ll want a pair of polarised glasses so you can soak up every last bit of scenery. Plus, the lenses give you a better chance at seeing playful dolphins and mellow turtles under the water all the way from the boat deck.

Take a selfie with a quokka on Rottnest Island, WA

There are cute animals and then there are quokkas. The little marsupials constantly look like they’re smiling and are just as friendly as they look. The only place in the world you can find them is on Rottnest Island just off the coast of Perth. As chance has it, the island also has incredibly clear blue waters so no doubt you’ll be snapping plenty of pics here. Pop a pair of anti-reflective and smudge-free lenses in your frames so that you’re Instagram-ready for your selfie with the furry little locals.

Roadtrip the desert with a four-wheel-drive, NT

The best way to see the Northern Territory is by car. The best thing to drive? A high-octane four-wheel-drive. You’ll need it for traversing the red desert sand and rocky terrain. The effort will be worth it when you wind up at raging waterfalls, natural (swimmable) springs and jaw-dropping rock formations. Of course you’ll have to travel down some long country roads to get you there, and you’ll be wanting a pair of glasses with SuperDrive lenses handy so you can cut the glare and see the road more clearly.

Hike along the Tomaree Coastal Walk, NSW

Almost every corner you turn in New South Wales is a hike in some form or the other, but it’s not every day you come across one that’s had some major ‘renovations’. The Tomaree Coastal Walk just north of Sydney provides sweeping coastal vistas for 27 kilometres. Do it in a couple of days or opt just for a small leg of it. When you’re working up a sweat, the last thing you want is your glasses slipping off your nose. Opt for the premium thin and light lens option that’ll make you forget you’ve got a pair of specs on.

Winery hopping in the Barossa Valley, SA

Sip on some world-class wine and look good doing it. Reactions lenses will take you from the sunny vineyard to the cellar door. Instead of worrying about packing sunnies and specs to read the tasting notes, you can roll both pairs into one – they’ll darken to become sunglasses when exposed to UV among the vines, and go clear when inside the cellar door. The region houses more than 150 wineries so if you’re not sure where to start, we recommend some legendary names like Penfolds, Henschke and Jacob’s Creek. Make sure you’ve got a Shiraz on your tasting flight because it's the region’s specialty.

Book your Specsavers eye test here and get 50 per cent off all lens options to enhance your specs before the Black Friday sale ends.
