You know what they say: sometimes it's not about the destination, it’s the journey. Start your holiday before you touch down (or keep the party going longer on your way home) in the sparkling metropolis of Singapore. Look forward to friendly locals, funky hotels and mouthwatering hawker meals that linger in your mind long after your stay. Here are your must-see moments.

Where to stay

Artyzen

Talk about a stunner. The 5-star Artyzen Singapore on Cuscaden Road grounds itself in local history and culture – providing a vibrant stay with a wonderful sense of place. Every grand room in the hotel has a balcony and soaring ceilings. On the rooftop is a beautiful infinity pool with a glass-bottom overhang and a jacuzzi. For those who like to stay active on their vacations, Artyzen Singapore has a modern gym and serene yoga pavilions on the fifth floor with wellness classes, which include high-intensity interval training, yoga in the water, and sound bath meditation sessions.

21 Carpenter

Thoughtful touches elevate every room at 21 Carpenter: custom-made furniture lends graceful form and function, WOHA calligraphic artworks adorn the room walls in a nod to the remittance letters of Singapore's earliest immigrants and you can sample some of Singapore’s most famous local snacks from the room’s minibar. Looking up through the stunning glass ceiling of the mid-century furnished lobby, you'll be able to catch a glimpse of a garden terrace where guests can socialise or unwind. On the rooftop, there is a second lounge that looks out over a shimmering steel-based infinity pool that has unobstructed city views.

Where to eat

LAVO

If you’re on your way to Italy, you’d be forgiven for thinking you’ve arrived early. With fresh Fine de Claire oysters in between sips of limoncello spritz and elaborate rustic brick archways, LAVO is a slice of the Amalfi Coast in Singapore. Located on Level 57 of Marina Bay Sands Hotel Tower 1, expect a menu full of classics like wagyu-veal-pork meatballs, the signature 20-layer chocolate cake, grilled octopus, brick oven pizzas, burrata, and hearty steaks. Did we mention it throws a poppin’ daytime party brunch with DJs in the sky?

Chinatown

If you’re up for a night on the town, take it to Chinatown specifically where you’ll find everything from boozy gelatos at White Shades to sustainable tipples. You could spend all night hunting down hidden bars and alternating drinks with delicious hawker snacks. Smith Street Taps slings no-frills craft beer, walking into Night Hawk feels like stepping into an alien’s on-ship bar, and Sago House rotates their cocktail menu weekly for the freshest local ingredients and fun touches.

What to do

Fort Canning Park

Fort Canning Park is more than just a pretty face – it’s Singapore’s most diverse spice garden (something a little different, eh?). It’s intriguing, it’s full of heritage and it’s the perfect spot to catch the morning sunrise. Snap photos in the historical gardens or with the outdoor sculptures and murals. The park is packed with heritage trees that have been there for hundreds of years, and if that isn’t enough history for you, you can explore the Fort Canning Heritage Gallery that walks visitors through the park’s significance for thousands of years in Singapore.

Orchard

This trending neighbourhood was dubbed the coolest in Singapore – it’s a shopping and culture hub where it’s very easy to while away the hours. It’s home to the largest Nike store in Asia – a three-storey standalone outlet; the biggest Pop Mart store in the country; Japan’s famous Kumachan Onsen hotpot restaurant featuring adorable melting ‘bears’; and The Laboratory, a spacious DIY keyboard customisation store. If you’re looking for distinct experiences and luxury brands from around the world in one spot, don’t miss the ION Orchard mall. Of course, we can’t forget those endearing ice cream cart ‘uncles’ who serve traditional potong ice cream sandwiches along the streets – a taste of nostalgia that helps beat the heat.
