'Shift', the third album from Logan Richardson, confirms that this Kansas City–born saxophone player (who currently lives in Paris) is a force to be reckoned with in the world of contemporary jazz, as we saw last year live when he collaborated with Christian Scott. Among other projects, he's a member of Nasheet Waits' Equality and the collective Next, a supergroup featuring some of right now's most talented musicians. Richardson garners attention for his clever compositions and for a dialogue with ventures toward free jazz but nourished by a rich melodic background.
