PRESSER: Brisbane’s Live Music venue The Zoo, known for its rich history of supporting the local music community, puts its arms around the local zine and comic community on October 23rd with the debut of the Brisbane Convention of Alternative Press (BCAP). BCAP will be home to a host of local zine makers and alternative comic artists who will have their work for sale in a casual Sunday afternoon market. BCAP will click into live music mode from 5pm with Mutanteer Premium and Amaringo bringing the evening to a close. Entry for the market will be gold coin donation and $5 from 5pm.

Brisbane’s zine and indie comic community is experiencing something of a renaissance with events like ZICS (in its fourth year) and Comic Street (in the heart of the Queen St Mall) highlighting the talent of many local artists. BCAP hopes to further that good work with another strong line up of emerging and experienced artists.

Makers have been encouraged to bring along companion works, so expect to see a range of paintings, sculptures, toys, patches and hand-made objects. There will also be a ‘Panel Talk at The Bar’ with a few of Brisbane’s finest discussing the potential of alternative comics and zines. Participants have also been invited to bring along back issues from their collection of alternative comics and zines, meaning there should be many obscure or vintage publications around.

It wouldn’t be a show at The Zoo without live music and local favourites Mutanteer Premium and Amaringo will bring the evening to a close.
