After teasing audiences with a tantalizing taste of their blues and soul flavoured rock n’ roll stylings over the past year or so, Byron Short & the Sunset Junkies are proud to launch their brand new full length album ‘Revelations’ at The Zoo on August 5th, 2016, joined by Phil Barlow and The Wolf, Dana Gehrman & Boatkeeper!

Byron Short has been a stalwart of the Brisbane music scene since his teens, moving in various circles and never letting genre restriction or industry labelling get in the way of making great music. Over the last few years out of his purpose built Endurance Studio he has released on his only label Sunset Junk Recordings a pair of critically acclaimed albums spanning the spectrum of musical styles from the RnB infused pop rock of 2014’s ‘Wounded Beast’ to 2015’s country rock manifesto ‘No Way Out’.

As a lone troubadour he traversed the North American continent, making himself a home in Nashville, Tennessee, where he became renowned for his songwriting nous and exhilarating live performance style.

Missing all the while was his band – The Sunset Junkies. Scores of amazing musicians have honed their craft behind Byron over the years in his famed backing band, but this most recent incarnation may be the most exciting yet. Armed with 11 new original songs set firmly in a dark blues/rock alleyway and telling the story of the occasional highs and phenomenal lows of life as a rock n’ roll musician, Byron Short and The Sunset Junkies are bound for great things. The new chapter begins at The Zoo on Friday, August 5th. Tickets $12 presale from the artists, $12 presale +BF from Oztix or $15 or the night. Doors open at 8pm.

Joining Byron Short & The Sunset Junkies to help celebrate the release of ‘Revelations’ are three equally talented and diverse artists in their own right.
Phil Barlow and The Wolf are an Australian band dishing out a musical feast of gritty, growling notes and tones, hooky rock riffs and flavors of funk that have crowds literally howling for more. Sinking their teeth in, the four-piece are currently touring new album, The Awakening, which continues to boldly and unashamedly reflect singer/songwriter, Phil's, personal experiences of ego, love, desire, self-belief and emotional freedom.

Dana Gehrman is Brisbane’s best kept secret. With vocals smooth and older than her years and guitar twang reminiscent of a spaghetti western, Gehrman’s smoky new single, Under The Wire has received local radio success coming in at #89 on the 2014 4ZZZ Hot 100 and saw Gehrman as a finalist for the 2016 Queensland Music Awards.

Boatkeeper is Brisbane folk/roots singer songwriter of the highest calibre. His newly released EP is testament to his songwriting skill and diverse musicality. The spirit of the sea and the wind can be heard in his voice, from a quaint whisper to a deafening roar.
