Community Meeting: What Should We Do About Montague Road? & Participatory Budgeting Workshop

Jonathan Sri, Councillor for The Gabba says
This meeting has two purposes:
1. To discuss possible community responses to improve pedestrian safety along Montague Road, and
2. If people are interested, to run a participatory budgeting workshop to help identify spending priorities for public space local infrastructure.

WHAT SHOULD WE DO ABOUT MONTAGUE ROAD?
Council’s budget for 2016/17 has failed to allocate funds for the dangerous Victoria Street/Montague Road intersection.

Council has now ignored residents’ complaints, numerous petitions, and my budget submission on this issue. It's now up to us as a community to decide what action can be taken to force council's hand. Come along to a public forum to discuss what we can do.

This will be a strategy-focussed meeting to explore and plan specific community actions to make our streets safer. All welcome.

With the population in the area burgeoning and construction in full swing, traffic along Montague Road is very heavy and getting worse each day. Many people cross Montague Road at this point to catch the City Glider, shop at Aldi, walk to school or walk up to Hardgrave Road. They are often forced to make a dash for it after waiting for breaks in the traffic that never come. There are also many cars turning across Montague Road in to Victoria Street.

No funds were allocated for Montague Road, apart from a small allocation to plan for traffic lights in two years’ time at the intersection of Vulture Street and Montague Road.

I am very concerned that someone will be seriously injured so I am holding a public forum to discuss what we can do. I would love to hear your ideas.
