The Soldiers Wife: Brisbane Show says
From Jackie: a few words about the show for those of you who aren't sure what this show/project is all about....

We’ve been making this show for nearly three years now.

It has opened up a huge conversation about the deep healing this country needs re varied trauma both recent and historic - from dispossession and the stolen generations, the excessive and often in-humane treatment of the convicts, soldiers paid in rum vs. our society’s current (culturally) anaesthetic habits, and alcohol’s not-so-long-bowed association with domestic violence and inherited patterns of behaviour. A culture of soul-destroying stoicism evoked in young men and women sent off to wars in the name of the Commonwealth and the impact these wars have had and continue to have upon Australian families. And now our refugees, double: the trauma of what they’ve left, exchanged for the trauma of Manus etc.

Working in the military community has opened my eyes to the true power of deep listening, and compassionate and inclusive reflection. This project has contributed greatly to the development of my craft and that of the other song writers who have been involved in this project since the get-go.

The Soldier’s Wife show is not just a show for those who have a connection to the military, it is for those seeking to make peace with a troubled humanity. I urge you to invest a little time in order to see what we are all about. Beautiful music, powerful voices, healing stories, a place in which to suspend time and reconnect with what truly matters in life.
