To celebrate World Oceans Day on Wednesday 8th June, the Global Change Institute will have a number of Google Cardboard goggles available in the Atrium from 11.00am – 2.00pm for UQ staff, students and visitors to go on a virtual dive.

Google Cardboard is a virtual reality platform enabling people to dive coral reefs across the globes using a Smartphone.

The vision has been captured by GCI researchers for the XL Catlin Seaview Survey. through the project , researchers have developed a baseline record of the world’s coral reefs, in high-resolution 360-degree vision. The imagery enables change to be clearly monitored over time and will help scientists and policy makers to see and understand the issues facing reefs. It is this stereoscopic underwater imagery that will enable people to venture into rarely seen underwater worlds.

No need to register - just come along and dive on in!
