Since opening in November 2023, Time Out Market Cape Town has become a cultural and culinary juggernaut, attracting thousands of hungry locals and tourists to experience the best of the city with a multi-course menu of the finest kitchens the Mother City has to offer. 

From the original Market in Lisbon to six more Markets spread from Chicago to Dubai and New York – and another nine Markets in the pipeline – Time Out Market is changing the face of urban dining culture.

Cape Town is the latest addition to the Time Out Market family, which sees more than 135 chefs capture a snapshot of the very best food in the most dynamic cities worldwide. 

Each Time Out Market is home to incredible culinary talents and in 2023, ‘Chef’s on Tour’ was born, bringing together chefs from different Time Out Markets across the globe with selected chefs jetting between Markets to share plates, provenance and culinary traditions. 

It’s a simple concept: one Market chef travels to a different Time Out Market to collaborate with the host chef in that city. Working together the chefs create an exclusive one-off multi-course menu that showcases their combined talents, and fuses their creativity and signature cuisines. It’s served up to a handful of diners lucky enough to book one of the extremely limited seats at a special collaborative chef’s table dinner hosted in the host Market. The host chef then follows suit by travelling to the next Market to collaborate with a new Market chef in that city. 

And now it’s Cape Town’s turn!

In what will be the fourth series of Chefs on Tour, May 2024 will see Chef Paul Toussaint – from Time Out Market Montreal – fly in to the Mother City for an exciting collaboration with Chef John van Zyl of The Melting Pot. The pair will host a unique fine dining experience for one night only at Time Out Market Cape Town on May 8, with an intimate number of seats available for booking! 

Born-and-raised in Haiti, since 2017 Chef Paul Toussaint has called Montreal home, celebrating the culinary traditions of the Caribbean across a succession of acclaimed restaurants. At Time Out Market Montreal he serves up his home country’s savoury and comforting cuisine, from crackling griot with piquant pikliz and fall-off-the-bone pineapple-and-rum ribs to sides of accra fritters and fried plantains.

In the Mother City, Chef Paul Toussaint will work with Chef John van Zyl; a chef famous for the globally-inspired small plates on offer at The Melting Pot. Chef John van Zyl’s Time Out Market concept is focused on the bountiful seafood from the Cape; the perfect foil for fusing with the flavours of the Caribbean. 

And the talented duo have finally unveiled what they'll be serving up for one night only at this unmissable culinary event:

Look forward to a memorable evening of fine food and inspired drinks pairings, all dished up in the buzz and bustle of Time Out Market Cape Town. The Chefs on Tour Cape Town experience takes place on Wednesday, May 8, at 7pm.
