Branford Marsalis, jazz royalty and saxophonist extraordinaire, will show you what live jazz is all about when he plays Dallas City Performance Hall February 4. Son of legendary pianist Ellis Marsalis, Branford and his brothers (Wynton, Jason, and Delfeayo Marsalis) were dyed in the wool of New Orleans acoustic jazz before busting onto the national music scene. Marsalis made a name for himself early on, playing alongside heavy weights like Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie and childhood friend Harry Connick Jr. Before long, he was crossing genres, working with international superstars like Sting. He entered into widespread, mainstream cultural relevancy through his stint as Musical Director of the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, serving as a modern bandleader who is one-part expert musician and one-part dynamic persona.

Marsalis is a Grammy-Award® winner and was named Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts. His band, the Branford Marsalis Quartet, is a who’s-who of musicians that is one of the most progressive and entertaining jazz ensembles in the country.
