Bye Bye Blue! says
For six decades, Clyfford Still’s work was infrequently exhibited in this country and very seldom seen outside the U.S. Now, thanks to the first major international exhibition on abstract expressionism since 1959, nine of Still’s most iconic works from Denver’s collection will be on view to millions from the fall of 2016 until the summer of 2017 at London’s Royal Academy of Art and Spain’s Guggenheim Bilbao.

In order to be included in this great adventure, PH-247 of 1951, a CSM fan favorite affectionately known as “Big Blue,” will come down from the Museum’s walls for the first time ever. Join us for a celebration of blue as we say “bon voyage” on Thursday, July 7. Dress in all blue and be admitted for just $1 all day!

Visit our all-day creation station to make your own ode to blue.

At 12:30 p.m., enjoy a lunchtime talk with chief conservator James Squires, who will describe preparing Big Blue and other priceless works for their journey overseas.

At 1:30 p.m., enjoy light refreshments in the Museum’s Anschutz Foundation Atrium.

At 3 p.m., enjoy an afternoon talk about the color blue led by a Museum gallery guide.

At 4 p.m., join us for another round of light refreshments.

The Museum closes at 5 p.m. and we bid farewell to Big Blue until summer 2017.
