Overview of the Ongoing Dispute Between the FBI and Apple

Professor Reid will present an overview of the ongoing dispute between the FBI and Apple over encryption on iPhones. The presentation will include a brief primer on encryption, the “Going Dark” debate and the so-called Crypto Wars, the FBI’s attempts to utilize the All Writs Act to compel Apple to assist its efforts, pending legislative action, and the implications of the saga for cybersecurity, privacy, and civil rights, and will close with plenty of time for Q&A.
