Time Out says

This unusual dance-theatre show interweaves the story of its performer Pauline Mayers with that of gynaecology pioneer James Sims

This dance/theatre hybrid, directed by the brilliant, mercurial Chris Goode, is a response to the assumptions heaped upon its performer, Pauline Mayers, a black dancer and choreographer in her mid-forties. This show from The Mayers Ensemble being directed by Goode there is another layer too, and her story is interwoven with that of James Sims, the 'father of modern gynaecology' who operated on black female slaves without anaesthetic believing they didn't suffer as much.
