Three Finnish hotels have received Michelin Keys, which have quickly become one of the hotel world’s most prestigious awards. The awards, announced on September 18 2026, went to three hotels in Finland: Runo Hotel Porvoo received the award for the second time, while Waldorf Astoria Helsinki and Skýra Retreat in Rovaniemi received their first Michelin Keys.
The Michelin Key is the hotel world’s equivalent of the Michelin Stars awarded to restaurants. It highlights exceptional hotel experiences around the world, with inspectors considering factors including the quality and consistency of service, architecture and design, the hotel’s personality and character, value for money and its connection to the surrounding area.
Michelin Keys were awarded for the first time last year, when Runo in Porvoo was the only Finnish hotel to make the list. The awards have now been handed out for the second time. All three of Finland’s Michelin Key hotels have one Key, which signifies a very special stay.
Finland’s Michelin Key hotels
Runo in Porvoo is a boutique hotel created inside an old Art Nouveau building. Its design draws on natural materials, Nordic aesthetics and carefully considered details. The result is an exceptionally cosy hotel experience with plenty of soul.
Skýra Retreat, on the shores of Lake Norvajärvi in Rovaniemi, has been open for less than a year and is centred around a restored 1950s school building. It brings together distinctive suites, private log cabins and a lakeside villa with a Nordic Spa, seasonal food and a programme of experiences rooted in northern nature, Finnish customs and folklore.
Waldorf Astoria in Helsinki’s Kruununhaka district is part of an international luxury hotel chain and brings together four historic buildings to create a luxury boutique hotel. It has 117 rooms and suites as well as a wide selection of facilities, including a lounge, bar, restaurant, spa and gym. The rooms have an elegant, classic look and offer all the modern luxuries a traveller could want, from spa-style bathrooms to plenty of space.
