There's still plenty of summer left – and August's event calendar reflects that. It's the perfect month to make the most of the season's final weeks.
Music fills the city at Flow Festival, Kallio Block Party, Viapori Jazz, Sointien Kalasatama and Käpylä's Elojuhlat festival. Dance lovers can head to the Tanssin Voima festival, the open-air Dansbana dance floor at Lasipalatsi Square or traditional social dances at the Merimelojat clubhouse.
Film festivals Espoo Ciné and the Lapinlahti Film Festival offer carefully curated programmes of new releases and classic films. Towards the end of the month, the Helsinki Festival gets under way, followed by Night of the Arts, both packed with events across the city.
If you're looking for somewhere new to work out, the Olympic Stadium's open track sessions continue on selected evenings throughout August. Gran Fondo invites cyclists to challenge themselves over long distances, while the Skeittikontti skateboarding hub remains open until the end of the month.
