The first solo exhibition by Manchester artist Rod Kippen.
'Surface' features selected images based around surfaces and layers within a city/urban environment.
This collection represents Rod's eye for the painterly and can be seen as 'found' paintings within the city. Some of the images involve purposeful mark-making created by residents of the city, reminiscent of the very start of artistic imagining such as on the walls of caves or rock faces. The softening effects of time and weather on these images gives them depth almost creating a modern archaeology.
