A student doing research into Manchester's Gay Village is calling for more people to get involved.

The project is titled 'A critical analysis of Gay Space in Manchester: exploring the economic and political development of the Gay Village over the last forty years.'

The purpose is to investigate how Manchester’s Gay Village has developed since the 1980’s, examining how the changes that the village has witnessed over the last forty years has shifted it from a place embedded within a political ethos to one more concerned with commerce. If the Gay Village has become a consumerist space, then what is such a thing as a 'gay community' anymore? And do we need the Gay Village?

Fran Thomason is working on the final project of a Masters of Research in sociology at Edge Hill University. As part of that she has been interviewing people who have had an input or have gained a broad knowledge of Manchester's Gay Village. As well as interviews, secondary data is being collected from various organisations around the city.

Interviews last for about 60 - 80 minutes and can be carried out at a venue of your choice. Fran is particularly interested in hearing from business owners in the Village or those who remember and used the area before it became a tourist hot spot.
