Time Out says

Claudio Monteverdi's morally shocking masterpiece

Morally ambivalent, this still shocking opera is considered to be one of form's earliest masterpieces.

It's based in part on real events when lecherous Nero got the hots for Poppea, and the opera charts his ruthless efforts to sway aside any obstacle that stands in the way of their union. Meanwhile, anyone who is half decent gets killed or exiled. What fun!

Brought alive by Tim Albery, this new production assembles a superb cast of singer actors led by Laurence Cummings, one of the country’s most eminent exponents of historically informed performance.

Sung in English. No titles.
